Blockchain solutions for monitoring the multifunctionality of European forests
The GRoot project is funded by the European Forest Institute (EFI) under the MoniFun project coordinated by the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke).
GRoot envisions the development of a digital twin-like ecosystem designed to monitor and manage European forests, integrating geospatial data with immutable records via blockchain technology.
The ecosystem will leverage existing technologies from the partners, allowing authorized stakeholders to input and access forest data securely, adopting standards applied by the European Green Deal Data Space, and ensuring data integrity and traceability for forest resources, biodiversity, soil health, and ecosystem services.
Built using Hyperledger Fabric as the permissioned blockchain framework, supporting transparent and privacy-preserving data sharing among researchers, forest managers, policymakers, and the public.
