Advancing Europe's capacity to monitor, predict and manage soil salinization
SaliNova is a Horizon Europe project (HORIZON-MISS-2025-05-SOIL-11, GA 101294352) dedicated to developing new high-resolution data architectures, advanced simulation models, and decision-support toolkits designed to monitor, predict, and mitigate the accelerating risks of soil salinization across Europe.
The project brings together foundational science and tech, combining Earth observation, field validation data, hyperspectral sensing, and climate modelling with physics-informed AI frameworks. This robust approach helps translate fragmented soil datasets into practical, actionable intelligence for agricultural operators, land managers, and regional policymakers.
Led by an expert pan-European partnership (including the Institute of Geo-Hydroinformatics at Hamburg University of Technology and the United Nations University Hub) SaliNova focuses on key deliverables such as interactive Stakeholder Decision Support Tools (DST), Pan-European 3D+T Salinity Maps, and strategic policy resources to build long-term soil resilience.
